Motion backing Cleanbill receives unanimous support in the ACT Legislative Assembly

A motion in support of Cleanbill, calling on the Government of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) to consider ways to promote Cleanbill’s use and increase both patient and practitioner involvement in the service, has received unanimous support in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The motion was introduced by ACT Greens spokesperson for Health, Johnathan Davis MLA, on 29 June 2023 and was supported unanimously by the Assembly without amendment.

The ACT has the lowest bulk billing rates and highest out-of-pocket costs of any jurisdiction in Australia. Only around 1 in 20 GP clinics bulk bill and average out-of-pocket costs sit at just over $49, significantly higher than the national average of $40.42.

The motion will provide further opportunity for Cleanbill to engage with the ACT Government, with the aim of improving primary healthcare outcomes across the Territory.

The ACT Government is required to report back to the Legislative Assembly on its support of Cleanbill by the last sitting week of February 2024.
