Cleanbill National Dental Listings Report (2023)

On 16 April 2023, Cleanbill released the 2023 Health of the Nation Report. The Report outlined the aggregate pricing and availability data we gathered from finding, calling and listing every GP clinic in Australia.

But we were only getting started.

We’d heard a lot about how difficult it was to get accurate pricing data for dentists and how many Australians were avoiding seeing the dentist because of concerns surrounding cost. We had to list dentists next. And that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Between July and October, Cleanbill gathered and listed full information, including pricing and availability information, for every dental clinic across we could find across Australia.

All 6,268 of them.

This represents the first ever comprehensive survey of dental clinic availabilities and billing practices in Australian history and sheds unprecedented light on the cost of seeing a dentist in 2023.

The average cost of seeing a dentist for a standard check-up and clean sits at almost $230, while the price of a new patient visit averages $297.15.

Services do average cheaper prices in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. But dental work costs significantly more in the smaller states, and all 3 of the ACT’s federal electorates come in within the top 15 most expensive for dental work across Australia.
