Cleanbill Blue Report (January 2023) – National Postcode Breakdown

Between August and December 2022, Cleanbill’s team found, called and listed full information, including pricing information, for every general practitioner (GP) clinic in each of Australia’s capital cities, as well as the entirety of the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania. 

On 8 January 2023, Cleanbill used the aggregate pricing data from the listing of these clinics to publish the 2023 Blue Report, the largest ever survey of Australian general practitioners’ pricing practices.

Now, we’ve taken it a step further.

Cleanbill has broken down the aggregate findings in the 2023 Blue Report by postcode to allow an area-by-area analysis of GP accessibility in Australia.

Only 7.5% of the postcodes surveyed across Australia play host to a 100% bulk billing rate amongst their GPs. Of these 7.5%, almost 80% practice out of Greater Sydney, with no individual postcodes in the ACT, Greater Adelaide, the NT or Tasmania having 100% bulk billing rates.

4 of the 5 most expensive suburbs to see a GP in Australia are located in Greater Sydney, while 3 of the 5 least expensive suburbs to see a GP in Australia are located in Greater Adelaide.

Areas like the ACT and Tasmania have very homogenous pricing practices across their entire jurisdictions, whereas places like Greater Sydney have areas with very high bulk billing rates and areas with very low bulk billing rates and very high out-of-pocket costs.
